I see you live in Victoria. Why are you running in Esquimalt?

I may live a few blocks outside Esquimalt’s municipal boundaries, but it has been my community for more than 15 years through my work, volunteer service, family and commitment to its future.

I had a feeling this question would come up, so I want to address it directly.

Esquimalt has been my community for more than 15 years. I worked for the Township for over ten years. Since then, I have volunteered much of my time to strengthening the local business community as president of the Esquimalt Chamber of Commerce, and I worked to advance public safety as Esquimalt’s representative on the Victoria and Esquimalt Police Board.

I understand the apprehension about voting for someone who does not live within the municipal boundaries. But I can tell you without hesitation that Esquimalt is my community.

My parents live in Esquimalt, in a property we own together, and they love it here too. On a good day, I can drive a golf ball into Esquimalt from my house.

I live in Vic West because, when Cedar, my wonder pup, began ageing, I wanted to find a home that would give her a yard where she could sunbathe. I could not find something suitable in Esquimalt that I could afford. That is something I would like to help change for people who want to make this great community their home in the future.

I may live a few blocks away, but I guarantee you that my heart belongs to Esquimalt.
